I mentioned previously that sound didn't work properly under SUSE Linux on my HP dv2000 (dv2058ea) laptop. Subsequently, Conexant made documentation available to Tobin Davis so that a proper ALSA driver could be produced. I'm now one of the beta testers, and have just tested the first cut at a new ALSA Conexant audio driver.
The news is good. The built-in speakers are working as they were before (with suitable ALSA patches), but now the microphones (internal and external) are working, which finally makes it possible to use VOIP clients like Skype and Gizmo.
There are still some things to do. Plugging in headphones doesn't cut the sound to the built-in speakers, so listening to music in a busy office is out of the question. The audio mixing controls also aren't working quite as they should yet.
That said, it's a very good start. Things are definitely looking up for living with Linux on the dv2000.
